Reaction: Ohler makes a good point that I never thought of. A few years ago, PhotoStory would have had to been bought in a store (for probably over $30), taken home and a disc put in your computer, then maybe an hour later you could begin your project. Now, I downloaded this program for my laptop for free in about 5 minutes at the most. He also points out that this is the artist's version of word processing; another point I never thought of. This allows anyone to be an artist. Your photo story could be a piece of art.

Technology really is giving everyone the power to make art with no really artistic talents, such as drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. It does not give creativity though which is hard to find. Technology is just another man made tool to try to make everyone equal.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with what you said about how multimedia technology has opened up the world of an artist. With such things as photo story, using photo story in the classroom aspires artistic creativity in the classroom and is considered a work of art in certain art circles. Its a great way for artists to use there artistic expression in the classroom! Great post!
ReplyDeleteI question whether or not true art will suffer. I believe it will, as people become entangled in computer technology. That fine line between the two becomes even fainter.
ReplyDeleteI agree. With these technologies, anyone can be a certain type of artist (maybe not in the original sense of the word, but still). It's a great way for kids to get creative and enjoy learning, as long as they are actually taught how to use the tools.
